INDUSTRY OUTLOOK
Perlite is known for its qualities of being lightweight, insulating, non-organic, fireproof, and pest-proof. Perlite is used in many industries including Horticulture, construction, Cryogenic, and many more. Perlite is used as an aggregate in lightweight insulating concrete and plaster in masonry blocks as a loose-fill insulating material, as a cavity wall in residential homes, and also in specialty applications such as fireproofing sprays, chimney fills interstitial floors, and acoustical sprays. Expanded perlite aggregate (EPA) is used as a heat & sound insulator since it is a lightweight material that ensures economic benefits in building & construction.
The global market for perlite is projected to grow at a CAGR of 6.3% from 2021 to 2025. The global market size of Perlite was estimated to be around US$ 1.4 billion in 2020 and is expected to reach US$ 1.9 billion by 2025. The growing construction industry will be the major factor in the demand for Perlite.
Due to COVID 19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns, most of the companies suspended the production of perlite products due to lower demand and supply chain disruptions. However, It is expected that the spending on infrastructure projects will rise significantly over the next 5 years. This will increase the demand for Perlite products. Moreover, Increasing new applications base of Perlite, such as eco-roofs, soil conditioning, waste-water filtration, etc. and government certification for its consumption is likely to act as an opportunity for the market in
the future.
The threat to the industry is the growing availability of some substitutes, such as Diatomite, Pumice, and Slag, Vermiculite, Coco-coir, etc.
