Godavari Biorefineries Limited was established on 12 January 1956 and the company is one of the largest manufacturers of Ethanol and Ethanol-based chemicals. It is registered at the registrar of companies in Mumbai. The authorized equity share capital of the company is Rs. 1,000,000,000 and its paid-up capital is Rs. 419,430,230.
The name of the company was changed to Godavari Biorefineries Limited from Godavari Sugar Mills Limited. The sugar, power, chemical, and distillery businesses of the Godavari Sugar Mills Limited were demerged from Company on April 21, 2009, with effect from April 1, 2008.
The Company is the world's largest producer of Multi-Party Orchestration Software (MPO). The Company is also part of the Somaiya group of companies, which has over 80 years of experience in the sugar industry and nearly 60 years in the bio-based chemicals industry.
The Company is using sugarcane juice and syrup to make ethanol. It is working on developing downstream products and increasing the diversion of sugar from waste to value-added products.
