Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the government aims to transform Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) into a full-fledged aviation ecosystem. Speaking after inaugurating the first phase of the CIAL Aero Park in Kochi, he noted that the second phase will include an IT Park, while the third phase is planned as an Aero City, with both projects expected to be rolled out soon.
The Chief Minister emphasized that long-term growth depends on adapting to changing times, noting that CIAL’s core strength lies in introducing timely innovations while consistently delivering world-class airport services. The Aero Park has been developed as a dedicated hub for aviation maintenance, training, and technical support services. Alongside existing companies and MRO units, new infrastructure worth ₹101 crore has been established, including aircraft maintenance and parking bays, engine storage facilities, training halls, and classrooms. The park also benefits from seamless connectivity to both the airport’s operational area and the city side. It is expected to generate around 2,000 direct jobs and nearly three times as many indirect employment opportunities. Additionally, the Aero Park will function with features comparable to those of a special economic zone.
The Chief Minister described CIAL as a model demonstrating how development initiatives over the past decade are transforming the nation. Through CIAL, Kerala is showcasing how airports can evolve into strong engines of industrial and economic growth. On the occasion, he dedicated several new facilities to the nation, including the CIASL Business Centre built at a cost of ₹30 crore with an additional 40,000 sq. ft. space at the Aero Park; a ₹13 crore technical services facility aimed at enhancing airside operational safety; and the country’s largest Aviation Breathing Apparatus Training Gallery, developed at a cost of ₹2 crore for firefighter training. Construction of a third hangar, estimated at ₹45 crore, is currently underway.
