Bira 91 Raises $30 Mn From Japan’s Kirin Holdings For Under 10% Stake

Ankur Jain founded B9 Beverages in 2015 to produce Bira 91 artisanal beer.

As of now, Bira91 is available in Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Goa, Kolkata, and Chandigarh. The firm has four breweries in India and nine other countries.

Bira 91, a New Delhi-based craft brewer, has raised $30 million from Kirin Holdings. Kirin's first Indian investment. The transaction gave the Japanese firm a 9% interest in Bira 91's parent business.

Ankur Jain founded B9 Beverages in 2015 to produce Bira 91 artisanal beer. The brewery now produces five beers: Bira 91 White (low-bitterness wheat beer), Bira 91 Blonde (ultra hoppy craft beer), Bira 91 Light (low-calorie midday lager), Bira 91 Strong (high-intensity, high-alcohol wheat beer), and Bira 91 “The IPA (India Pale Ale)”. Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Goa, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Pune, and Chandigarh. The firm has four breweries in India and nine other countries.

Bira 91 is supported by Sequoia Capital India and Sofina, a Belgian investment firm. The fresh money will be utilized to expand the company's operations and maintain working capital.

Kirin Holdings' investment was a mix of equity and debt, Sequoia is estimated to own 45 percent of the firm, with the rest split among a group of investors.
