The expenses of NSE increased in Q3FY23 by ₹133.27 Cr to ₹907.17 Cr from ₹773.90 Cr in Q2FY23. The major contributor to this increase was "other expenses," which rose to ₹610.23 Cr, and was a result of the collocation matter and dark fiber charges. The expenses for various segments were distributed as 21% for clearing and settlement, 19% for technology expenses, 16% for regulatory expenses, 8% for employee expenses, 10% for depreciation, and 4% for premises.
Despite the increase in expenses, NSE's profit after tax (PAT) improved in Q3FY23 to ₹1826.09 Cr as compared to ₹1773.94 Cr in Q2FY23. The increase in PAT was due to a reduction in the tax amount paid. The EPS (Earnings Per Share) also increased to ₹37.90 in Q3FY23 from ₹35.83 in Q2FY23.
In terms of the standalone net worth, NSE reported a significant improvement with its net worth standing at ₹14,863 Cr in Q3FY23 compared to ₹10,042 Cr in Q3FY22 and ₹11,458 in FY22.
In conclusion, despite the decline in revenue in Q3FY23, NSE has shown improvement in its PAT and net worth, which are key indicators of the company's financial health. The increase in other income and reduction in tax amount paid were the key contributors to the improved performance. NSE remains a market leader in the stock exchange segment in India, and its continued growth and improvement are positive indicators for the Indian capital markets.
