Polymatech Electronics has commissioned a sapphire ingot crystal-growth puller at its Oragadam campus near Chennai, marking its entry into upstream semiconductor materials manufacturing. The equipment is used to produce large single-crystal sapphire ingots, a critical raw material for semiconductor, LED, optical, and photonics applications.

The new facility is currently undergoing qualification and validation to ensure stable production conditions, including power quality, ultra-pure water supply, process gases, and temperature control required for high-purity sapphire crystal growth.

This initiative strengthens Polymatech's strategy of vertical integration, expanding its capabilities from semiconductor packaging into crystal growth and semiconductor materials. By localizing the production of sapphire crystals, the company aims to reduce India's dependence on imported semiconductor materials, strengthen domestic supply chains, and support the country's broader semiconductor manufacturing ambitions.

Polymatech also plans to scale up production by installing additional sapphire crystal-growth pullers at its upcoming semiconductor Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Nava Raipur, further expanding India's semiconductor materials ecosystem.
